Foxstripe sulkily trotted into camp. As usual, her fur was covered in mud and burs, except this time the burs actually hurt. It almost wanted her to stay clean all the time. This time was different than any other time she came into camp a mess. Foxstripe had run into a tree. With sap. That's right, the great and noble Foxstripe had got distracted by a pretty floating leaf, and had run into a tree. A scarlet blush spread across her cheeks just thinking about it, it was so embarrassing. Nettles and leaves were now stuck to her face thanks to her little mishap.
Foxstripe's ears went flat on her head as she noticed all the cats in camp staring at her....and laughing. They hadn't laughed at her in a long time, but the sap had been a new addition. Blushing even more (not that you could see it under the nettles, leaves and dirt), Foxstripe loped off into a corner of the camp where she settled down and started licking herself. The she-cat winced as she swallowed the mud....was this what washing yourself tasted like? Ugh. It was awful. The sun beat down on her as she removed the coats of filth and dirt, revealing her shining golden fur. 'See how much they all laugh when they see me clean.' She thought proudly, her chest puffing out. Of course, Foxstripe, being Foxstripe, found nothing wrong or odd at all with that sentence. She just continued washing herself.

Sparktail trotted into camp, paws silently touching the dusty ground. His pelt was windswept, as he had just run across the moor. In his jaws, he carried a rabbit, quite plump, but he'd seen bigger. But a rabbit was a rabbit, and he needed to feed his Clan. The orange tom's eyes scanned the cat filled clearing, searching for nothing in particular.
Spotting something both odd and amusing, Sparktail trotted over to the fresh kill pile and dropped his catch on top of the heap, the force making a small dusty cloud arise. He sneezed, blinking and twitching his whiskers. Shaking his head, he blinked a couple more times and started across the clearing. He reached the a far corner, where lay another orange cat, much like himself. Suppressing in amusement for now, Sparktail leaned down and fastened his teeth onto a bur on the she-cat's back. He pulled it out quickly, then looked at her. Her name was Foxstripe, and she was covered in dirt and StarClan knew what else.
Sparktail smiled at her, and said cheerfully, "Hello there, Foxstripe. You're a mess, what happened?" His tone was light and amused, and his green eyes shone, as they met her amber ones, and his smile broadened. His ears flicked, awaiting the orange she-cat's words sure to come out of her mouth. Foxstripe had been busy thinking about why slugs moved so slowly. If they moved a little bit faster, she could make a fun game of chasing them. But, no, they just have to be as slow as Bearstorm in the mornings. Foxstripe giggled a bit, her thoughts quickly traveling toward how lazy and hard to wake up her older brother was. When she felt something being pulled from her back, Foxstripe jumped and let out a small un-catlike squeak.
Turning to face the cat that had the audacity to actually touch Foxstripe, she had no need to puff out her chest proudly anymore because it was still puffed from the first time, Foxstripe blinked when she saw Sparktail. He was one of the warriors that wasn't grumpy or old, or tried to act like her dad 'But then they would be acting the same exact way as me.' Foxstripe held in a giggle after imagining Swiftstar shooting himself into a mud pit. Sparktail's voice brought her back to the present. 'Oh, right! I have company!'
"Hi, Sparktail!", she meowed cheerily, "I have a very good answer! Actually quite a horrifying story. You see, I had gotten distracted by a pretty floating leaf. I can still remember it now, it was the most awesome leaf ever! It had red veins.... kind of like those berries you see all the time that are awesomely tast-- Oops. Back to the story. Anyway, So I was running along, not looking where I was going and--- BAM! This monstrous tree jumped in front of me and yelled 'Die, clanlings!' So I, of course, had no choice but to defend my clan bravely and without a thought to myself, if I might add. I head butted it, right on its sap...then it died! So I rolled myself in mud to get the horrid stench of tree-monster off of me. And now I'm here!" She finished, excitedly. Foxstripe gazed at Sparktail, noticing how pretty his eyes were. Kind of like the light green moss that seemed to cover all the trees in Shadowclan's territory. She blinked and forced herself to look away. Foxstripe went back to licking herself, proudly noticing that by now her coat was about half-way clean, letting some of her golden fur shine through.
The young she-cat was completely silent as she contemplated Sparktail's answer. He would probably laugh, tell her to grow up, then walk off to join some of the other snooty warriors. This actually put her mood way down for she actually wanted a friend her age. Foxstripe awaited Sparktail's words with heavy dread.

Sparktail listened to Foxstripe's story, not speaking. Her voice was quick and cheerful, but clearly she wasn't telling the truth. Fighting and speaking trees? No way. He twitched his whiskers, as she finished her tale. The large orange tom sat down beside Foxstripe and nodded for no reason really. There was a moment's silence, and then it was broken by his deep laugh.
Sparktail's laugh was light and cheerful, and though it wasn't loud, it enveloped them as if they were the only ones there. His laugh fading away, he looked at Foxstripe again and smiled. "So that's what happened, huh?" he asked, nodding. "Quite a story you've got there. Such a brave cat you are." He chuckled, and his eyes shone. The silence came back, and it stretched out between the two cats. Silently wishing Foxstripe would say something, Sparktail stared at his paws, sheathing and unsheathing his long silver claws. After he was done laughing, Foxstripe waited for him to say 'Grow up' and walk away. Her ears twitched over to the entrance, where her brother, Bearstorm, was talking up a pretty little she-cat. Hmmm. Foxstripe would have to go over there later to embarrass him. This plan made her let out an evil laugh in her head. 'Muahhahahahahahah!'
Her head quickly swung back to Sparktail, surprised after what he said and the fact that he wasn't running away from her. 'Woah...whiplash.' She thought as the muscles in her neck started hurting. As the silence drew out, Foxstripe started feeling more guilty for not telling the truth. Why should she feel guilty? He obviously didn't believe it. 'Because mom told you to always tell the truth, no matter what it is.' She argued with herself for about another minute before letting out a huge sigh. "Okay, so I ran into a tree, then fell into a puddle of mud. It's not like it's never happened before." The blush of embarrassment that had faded only minutes before appeared again and her ears lay flat on her head. (Not my best post....I probably won't post again after this for up to two weeks. D: Sorry.)

Sparktail continued to look at the ground, even after Foxstripe had admitted the truth. It was surprising, he had liked the monster tree story better. It was better; the mood between the two cats had been light and cheerful. Now it was just....awkward. Shaking his head, the tom looked up at Foxstripe. Her ears were flattened to her head, and there was a faint blush on her cheeks. He held her gaze for a couple heartbeats. Unable to hold it any longer, he looked down again, blushing himself.
Sparktail didn't say anything for a while. The silence strecthed out between the two for a much longer time. Suddenly he sighed. Still looking down, he said, "You know you didn't have to tell me the truth. I liked your story much better. Plus, you make the real thing sound so...bad. It's not really like that, it was just a mistake." He was silent for a few more moments. He didn't look up again. "I guess you want me to leave you alone now..."
