Ice padded just inside the Thunderclan border, not caring that she was out of her territory. Her black paws fell silently as she scanned the forest, searching for prey. Times in twolegplace was tough, despite the beginning of newleaf. There still wasn't much prey, nor would there be in greenleaf. With a sigh, she stopped and looked around. A flash of prey caught her eye and she creeped up on it, pouncing when she was close enough. With a satisfied his, her paw met the rodent's, a mouse, body. It wasn't hard enough, however, to kill.
"You aren't very plump." She commented to the frightened mouse as if it could understand her. "Hardly a meal." Shrugging, she tossed it in the air. It landed with a startled squeal and attempted to run, but Ice caught up to it and slammed her paw down on it, this time breaking its neck.
"Life's not fair." She purred as she settled down to eat her stolen prey.

Maplepaw clawed at the muddy earth, trying hard to get a thick burdock root out of the dirt. Making sure her claws didn't dig too deep into the flesh of the root, she pulled one last time and stumbled backwards slightly with the root dangling from her paws. Giving a relieved sigh, Maplepaw took the root in her mouth and carried on through the forest, in search of more herbs for the stock.
Lost in thought, the little she-cat was suddenly shaken into the present by a squeal of prey and when she opened her mouth, an unknown scent flooded her senses. Her ears pricked and her paw steps silent, Maplepaw slowly pushed through the bushes only to see a larger cat than her, probably warrior aged. She could tell the other she-cat was trouble, and so the little apprentice stayed in her cover of bushes, simply watching and hoping the other cat would not notice her. ---------- character(s) used: maplepaw muse: moderate word count: 160 © crystal.

As Ice gulped down the last bits of her prey, she scented the air. There was a strong scent of cat and she had a feeling she'd been spotted. She rose to her feet and looked around.
"Whoever you are, come out now." She ordered, extending her claws, but keeping her calm demeanor. Then she bounced up and padded in a circle. "Let's play a game. You hide and I'll seek."
Ice was bouncing around now. "You wouldn't deny the deputy of Bloodclan would you?"

Maplepaw flinched as she realized the other cat could scent her. She hesitatingly crept out of her hiding place, keeping her eyes on the ground. Fear spread through her body, and she wished the ground would open up and swallow her. She spoke up, stumbling over her words.
"Uh... um, you're um... on ThunderClan t-territory," Maplepaw stammered, eyes focused on her paws. In her head, she went over all her battle steps, weak, yet they would help her survive for some time. "D-Do you have so-some kind of business here or s-something?" she asked, chancing a glance at the she-cat, and apparent deputy of BloodClan.
Oh, what kind of mess had she gotten herself into this time?

Ice looked at the scrawny she-cat and purred menacingly. "This wont be Thunderclan territory for long." She bounced closer to the she-cat and flicked out a paw, shoving her towards a tree.
"I still want my game. How about we race. I'll try to kill you, and you run." She meowed, giving the cat a look that dared her to argue. "You can have a three heart beat head start."

Maplepaw stared at her, eyes darkening. Honestly, this she-cat was a really nasty furball. The apprentice wasn't always shy; she had her bold moments too you know. And this was probably one of them. Still keeping her eyes downcast, Maplepaw's half useless claws dug into the earth, the muddy substance clinging to them, blocking their silver sheen.
"Y-you can't take this territory," she stuttered, her voice slightly firmer. "A-and, you can't boss me around!" Her eyes, cold amber shards, turned to the BloodClan cat, ablaze with anger, as well as fear hidden in their depths. No way was she going to die without a fight.

Singedpelt padded along the path through the forest, that most warriors, whether knowingly or not, actually took. There were several well-trodden paths that you could make out only if you looked for the shape of bent undergrowth, rather than the color of raw-turned earth. They were all through the territory. The most used one was to SunningRocks, to keep those RiverClan fish-faces from trying to take SunningRocks. RiverClan didn't even use those rocks to hunt! They only wanted to be lazy, good for nothing fish in fur that lounged on the rocks all day doing nothing useful for their clan. Singedpelt snorted, shaking her head and making her whiskers tremble. She could come up with hundreds of reasons to dislike the other clans, but she tried well to keep an open mind about, no matter how annoying or pointless their actions seemed.
Then there came into account, BloodClan, who didn't have the right to be called a clan at all. The worthless excuses for cats didn't even have any purpose for their own lives, and they thought it righteous to roam around and ruin others? Couldn't the idiots just mind their own business? She held BloodClan in lower self-esteem than any other clan, for the stupidity they held. There was nothing about BloodClan she liked. Like the old saying told by elders, 'once a kittypet, always a kittypet', there was also a version, 'once a murderer, always a murderer.' BloodClan lived by no code, and no rules. They think they can live life freely and screw everyone else; but freedom has a price. Everyone else has to pay it while the free-livers carry on as though nothing is happening out of the ordinary.
Singedpelt sighed, not wanting to think about the other clans anymore. It only got her worked up, and she needed to focus on her task; hunting. But as she headed out towards the border, she heart voices up ahead and paused, ears pricked, listening intently. She picked up the scent trail of Maplepaw, the medicine cat apprentice up ahead. The she-cat wasn't far off, but as Singedpelt listened, the pawsteps faltered. She heard a cold, voice, and then Maplepaw's frightened reply. Something was definitely wrong. Singedpelt stalked silently through the leaves. She was down wind. The scents of the other cats were blowing towards her, so they wouldn't notice her until she made a mistake, or spoke to them. As she slid quietly into a space just at the edge of where they were, she slowly came to terms of the scene in front of her.
Maplepaw was crouched close to her, the unmistakable tang of fear flowing from the apprentice. In front of her, was Ice, the BloodClan deputy. She had heard what the she-cat had said, and now her mind was racing. Not going to be our land for much longer? Oh? And why's that? She thought. The deputy carried on, and Singedpelt's blood began to grow cold. So the BloodClan deputy was going to try and kill Maplepaw? What a miserable cat. A growl rumbled in her throat. She didn't care if they knew she was there now. Singedpelt raised her tail challengingly and strode out from the bushes, chin raised towards Ice who's eyes were blazing with malice. From the smell of her, she had been recently fed. Did these cats have no respect or honor in them?
"I believe you will do no such thing," she meowed calmly, stepping in front of the apprentice as though to shield her from the enemy cat. "I am Singedpelt. ThunderClan's deputy. And whether or not you're nose isn't working, or you BloodClan cats are too brainless to know what a 'border marker' is, you are on ThunderClan territory. I'll ask you to leave, but we all know asking you BloodClan cats to do anything is like pulling out tails," she smiled, her tone coldly polite, but her insides were trembling with fury. She wanted nothing more than to rake her claws down the stupid cat's face. Narrowing her eyes, she added. "So what might you mean by, this won't be ThunderClan territory for long?"
She tilted her head on her side, eyes mocking. "Are you cowards still thinking you can take on the clans? No matter how many times you repeat the lesson, you never learn," without another word, she unsheathed her claws, muscles tense and ready to defend herself.

Ice looked at the Thunderclan cat. Those worthless fleabags thought they were so much better than everyone else. She blinked calmly at the cat and flicked her ear. "Border markers mean nothing." She meowed.
She rolled her eyes. "You think I would share my clan's precious secrets with you?" She held a paw close to her chest in false shock then put it back down. "You clan cats are too weak to stop us now, anyway." She added, then looked around. The border was a couple tail-lengths away. She took a few steps back until she was over the border and yawned insolently, sweeping her tail in a graceful motion.

Maplepaw felt relief flood through her when she saw Singedpelt step into her vision, standing in the middle of Ice and the apprentice. The tension in her muscles disappeared and she relaxed her crouch, standing up and padding forward to stand just behind the ThunderClan deputy. She gave a soft smile and murmured, "Thanks Singedpelt."
She turned back to Ice, her amber orbs going from warm to hard. Her eyes narrowed as the BloodClan cat hopped over the border, sitting there as if she were queen of the world. Her lips drew back in a snarl, fierce for such a small cat.
